Greetings from the East!
Brethren, if you have not already done so, please take the opportunity to welcome our youngest Entered Apprentice Brother Steve Brown. This month brings us another petition to ballot upon at our October 2nd Business Mtg. If the petitioner is elected, we will have another EA degree the following Wednesday October 9th at 7:00 pm. We have a healthy reputation of performing meaningful ritual work and your attendance and participation, even as a sideliner, displays to the candidate the importance and gravity of their initiation.
On the evening of the 16th, our Brother SW Noorlander has promised to impart more of the thought provoking Hermetic Principles. Keeping with tradition, our annual Past Masters Dinner will be held on October 23rd at 6pm at Gray Cliff Lodge in Ogden Canyon. All are invited to join us, (and if possible) with your spouse or adult guest, to honor the hard work and dedication of our past lodge leadership. Menu details and cost will be announced at our October business mtg. This dining out has always proven to be an enjoyable evening with the Worshipfuls. We do honor them but they do also pay for their own meal that evening. RSVP with MWB Secretary Barron.
It is with sadness that we report the passing of Brother Irley Oxford, 89, who was reported last month to be suffering from cancer in Gulfport Mississippi. Please keep his wife and family in your thoughts and prayers. Although he moved away from Ogden, Brother Oxford remained a member of Unity Lodge #18 for many, many years.
As Freemasons, we are taught to stand upright and true in our search for balance in our lives. Balance is a challenge for me every day but, I continually remind myself to stand upright and true. As Freemasons we are special in this modern society. We do things out of the love for others without an expectation of personal gain. We hold the love and trust of our family, Brethren, and GOD near and dear in our hearts knowing that our investment in these virtues would be returned with interest should we ever need to make a withdrawal. As I make my journey through life, I am reminded that my actions, good and bad, become the outward perception of what Freemasonry is to the rest of the world. My obituary and yours could have the words “he was a Freemason for many, many years....”. If nothing else, it is my hope those words alone leave a legacy that automatically tells the rest of the world, “that guy was special, he was a Freemason!” Perpetuate the goodness of Freemasonry Brethren!
Every single mystery school that taught their adherents the higher spiritual gifts, first and foremost taught them the importance of understanding and harnessing that internal monitor of thoughts, feeling and emotions, that lies within the internal workings of the individual soul.
No doubt that is why “it’s the internal, not that external qualifications that recommend a man to be a mason.”
