Greetings from the East
Tidings from the East Brethren,
Please join me in congratulating our youngest Entered Apprentice, Brother Paul Adams. Congratulations are also in order for Brother Jim Palmer who has furthered his masonic journey by being passed to the degree of Fellowcraft. It is so good to see more good men becoming a part of this institution laying the foundation stones for the future of Unity Lodge #18. Speaking of foundation stones, this month is the 50th Masonic Birthday of Brother Phidia Cutrubus. Raised in Unity Lodge in 1969. Please join us along with Most Worshipful Grand Master Hamilton at the March business meeting to recognize him and this impressive milestone. Congratulations Brother Cutrubus!
On March 25th (that’s a Monday) at 7:00 pm, Brother Francis Gary Powers Jr will come to our Lodge to present a 1hr lecture about the U2 spy plane incident that occurred when his father was shot down over Russia May 1st, 1960 during the Cold War. See attached flyer. All masons, and guests they invite (seating limited to our downstairs fellowship hall), are to hear the story of a patriot who worked in a risky top secret world of espionage and sacrificed nearly two years of his life to a Russian jail cell as a political prisoner. Cash or check donations will be accepted at the door. All profits will be given to the Ogden YCC (Your Community Connection) who provide: Domestic Violence Shelter, Housing, Nutrition, Hygiene, Counseling, Rape Crisis Center, Medical care, Shelter in our community. See their website for more information: https://www.ycchope.org/.
March brings to us a hint and a promise of spring as the cold winter months ease their icy grip on the day. Knowing each day yields a little more daylight than the one before it brightens my outlook each successive day. Until the warmth arrives, carbohydrates help keep the body warm and one of my favorite ways to accomplish that is spaghetti! Sooo,….we will repeat our March ‘Spaghetti Social’ on the 27th at 6:30 pm downstairs. Brethren, significant others and children are welcome for a night of pasta, salad, and fellowship. Bethel #2 Jobs Daughters will be giving us an after-dinner presentation. Please RSVP to me by text, email or phone to 801-725-5582 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Finally Brethren, ask yourself these questions: 1). What has Freemasonry done for you? 2). What are you doing to improve yourself in Masonry? If you are so inclined, I will ask you to take no more than 1 minute to share your answer in Lodge. You may not think so but, you will inspire the Brethren.

I am sorry to report that Brother George Hall died on Monday, January 21st. He was the longest living member of Unity Lodge #18. He had been a member since 1951 and had 67 years and two months as a Master Mason. We extend our sympathy to his family. Services will be Friday, February 1st at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Unity Lodge will conduct the Masonic graveside service at Leavitt’s Aultorest Memorial Park.
Just as a quick reminder, please notify me if you are aware of a Brother hospitalized or not feeling well. We would like to send a card to the Brother or make visits if he able to have visitors.
