Greetings from the East
Greetings from the East Brethren,
The Winter Solstice has come and gone for 2018, the astronomical beginning of winter and the longest night or darkness period. December’s Full Cold Moon however, appeared that very same night to illuminate the promise that ‘more light’ is forthcoming on our journey. Interpret that as you will but, the new Masonic year is upon us and I am excited to get started. First, I want to express my appreciation and gratitude for all the sincere support and well wishes I have received upon being installed as the ‘newbie’ Worshipful Master. Our installation ceremony was very well done and a wonderful experience. I hope all in attendance felt the same energy that was imparted to me. A special day never to be forgotten. Wednesday, 19 December, we held the Slackwater Social coordinated by our Jr. Past Master, JM Pijuan, that yielded a great time celebrating the Masonic Year 2018 fruits of labor of the lodge. Suffice it to say, ‘there is photographic evidence that fun & Unity was had by all’. Lesson learned; “We gotta’ do this more often!” Looking forward, we have an active month of January ahead of us with a petition to ballot upon, a petition to read and a Master Mason degree to practice and confer and potentially an EA initiation. Our Entered Apprentices are progressing as well so expect a couple of Fellow Craft degrees in the near future too!
Some goals for us this year:
1.) Continue to increase the satisfaction and opportunities for members and family to learn and share. I have included a short survey to help us achieve this. It can be returned by email, (email@example.com), verbalized via phone, or simply annotated and dropped off at any future business meeting (preferred). Hard copies will also be available at the January business meeting. Your input helps make this YOUR lodge.
2.) To make our presence known to the good men of the community and to provide a path to the door for them to knock upon to inquire about Freemasonry. This is not a recruitment campaign but if our door is left unseen because we have neglected to clear the walk leading to it, very few will be inclined to knock. More to come on this one.
3). Increase the communication between the lodge and the members. I have taken advantage of the technologies available to us today and initiated a free phone app called ‘Crew’. If you reside in the locality of Ogden, you have probably received a suspicious and annoying text inviting you to join ‘Crew’. While I can alleviate the suspicions, I can only apologize for the annoyance. (I am learning how this works too). Social Media is an ‘about face’ for me but, seeing it as a valuable tool to achieve an important goal, I have decided to embrace it and hope that you might also consider it. (It has worked in another lodge for over a year). If you wish to be removed, PLEASE inform me and I will gladly do so.
In closing, I want to remind you all that the Ogden Chapter, Order of DeMolay are running a sock drive for the homeless from now until mid-February. If, you are able to do so, please bring a pair or two of new socks to help out those less fortunate than ourselves. (any size, any gender). There is a collection box in the main hallway of the lodge. The Order is also in need of adult advisors too. There are many different positions that you can participate in. Please see me or WB Austin Barron for more information. Thank you Brethren, I am looking forward to this year.
